Kodak’s Coloramas

Worked on an advertisement for Kodak today in my design class. And found some really interesting history on the company.

There were these large photo prints called Coloramas which Kodak made. They were gigantic (18×60 feet) transparencies that were backlit by natural light in Grand Central Station, and other locations.

Take a look at the Kodak site to see more. (go to the gallery and sort by subject). In total there were 565 coloramas displayed publicly from 1950 to 1990. Some of these are currently in the archive at the George Eastman House. Find more information about the series here.

Also here is a very sad article about the last Kodachrome processing machine.

My photo teacher described this photo from Robert Frank’s The Americans as “post modern”.

Going to take landscape photos in this freezing weather while listening to the Mountain Goats and Herman Dune. I really hate taking photos in the cold. Like a lot.

Doorknobs – Oldies

Saw these yesterday and wished I had my camera. Luckily my great photographer friend has my back.
