A Classy College Christmas Party

To avoid end of semester work I decided to throw a Christmas party. This was the first year I had a whole apartment to decorate so take a look:

For decorations I made paper chains out of a holiday JCrew magazine and added newspaper snowflakes using soda can tabs as hooks.

For added festivity I went out into a mysterious wooded area behind my building and cut greens and bittersweet. As for food my roommate and I made reindeer cookies, and peanut butter cup peanut butter cookies. I also made guacamole because everything is way better with guacamole. It’s not in the photo below, because it’s shy and also I forgot to take it out of the fridge.

For invitations I again took inspiration from Kerry at the Tragic Whale with her homemade present tags. I had made a holly stamp last year, but of course threw it out once I was done. The new version of the stamp was made with an eraser and a kitchen knife… and amazingly I still have 10 fingers!

I obviously have no pictures of the actually party since that would be logical, but here is one from before the party of our two fireplaces! Few places have a need for that much fake warmth.

If you wish you had a TV that doubles as a fireplace check out the movie on netflix “Fireplace for your Home” There are two episodes.. I like the first one best, but you can spend hours watching it by yourself to decide.

And no party would be complete without a snow globe of me in the bathroom.

Doesn’t it make you want to pee?!

An Unnecessary Bedroom Explication

I recently rearranged my room for summer, which means bed by the windows or else I’ll die of heat stroke. Because of the switcheroo this has become the super cool corner of the room (take that dresser section).

The letters spelling ‘hate’ is my personal favorite. My mom made the letters from metal, wood, and sticks for an art installation a few years ago. She had them spelling out a Wordsworth quote, but was kind enough to give them to my acrostic ‘hate’ wall. Every time I see it I can’t help smiling at the ridiculousness.

I got that chair last summer at a yard sale. Fun thing that chair taught me: you don’t need to be in a car for your butt to stick to leather. The cool barrel lamp thing was made by grandfather. He was a welder and made it out of a barrel and cast iron cobbler shoe molds, which is the coolest part and I am covering in this photo for no good reason except that I didn’t know where to put that handkerchief when I was cleaning my room.

On the lamp/barrel is a wooden ball and cup game, which my grandmother gave me a few Christmases ago saying, “I entered the toy store and it just happened.” Sixteenth century Mexico knew what was up, this game is perfect.

So yup, that’s an overly described corner of my bedroom.

The magic of clothespins

So a couple weeks ago, when I got back from break I was looking at my walls and thought they were the most boring thing in the world. So I decided to make my walls a clothesline for cards… a cards-line if you will. So here it is:

I even hung up the ukulele my brother got me for christmas!

And this is what it looks like at night, with my canopy lights on!

this photo manages to hide the mess that is my desk!

see there are clothespins

So it’s official. I am now Russel Crowe in the movie A Beautiful Mind.

Jumping on Trains, Popularity Trains

So I got an iphone. I am officially the real deal and part of the cool society. Now I am trying to figure what case to get. Society 6 has nice art in the form of iphone cases, so that is my plan.

But now I need your help. Which do I choose? You get to vote! Comment with the number.

numero uno

it's case #2

rainbow fish.. also known as #3

triangles... #4

#5 = everyplace i have ever wanted to be

And then there are ones that aren’t really my thing, but make me think of my family:

this one makes me think of my mom

as does this one

and this one reminds me of my brother... how obvious.

I’ve been Framed!

Well I saw this a few days ago on pinterest…

Source: shelterness.com via Kerry on Pinterest

And conveniently in the corner of my room I had an old frame that I had been avoiding doing anything with, because I envisioned it becoming something spectacular. So I ended up making this.

(ps. i took that photo crooked accidentally.)

(pss. i took that photo crooked intentionally.)

I think there either needs to be more things in there or less, and more darker colors. I can’t really decide where I am going to go with it.

Like Dog Tags, but for Christmas

So Kerry over at the Tragic Whale made a post a few days ago on DIY holiday gift tags and I loved them.

She made stamps out of erasers. I decided to make some of my own, but switched it up with holly instead.

I don’t have a typewriter like she does, so I was forced to go all marker on it.

Here they are on the presents. Go small families!

Merry Christmas!

Bulletin Boards!

I took down last month’s bulletin board on writing a great paper yesterday. Then I put up this one today. It’s twister themed, with the headline, “Study Tips that Don’t Suck”

Things that are funny

When I was at the antique warehouse thing this summer, I saw a typewriter with this message. I thought it was hilarious.

Weeka, weeka, Weekend!

It’s the weekend, but since I got off work Wednesday, life is a weekend! Hoping to spend my last week at home enjoying the beach and the nature and the books.

Some links of the past week. Get ready they’re really good:

Despite the 2 foot separation between them, Shaq and his girlfriend Hoopz still love each other.

Explaining how to actually wear a bandeau. Ps. this is the most blatant pr/seo article I have ever read.

Oh, Arrested Development Hipster Quote Tumblr.. you are so funny.

A mission few could endure, 365 days of the movie Julie and Julia: The Lawrence and Julie and Julia Project.

I want to make this. All I need is an attention span and all of the materials.

Pretty gift bags.

I want this classy, tiny trailer.

In retrospect, all these links seem just okay. Sorry.
