Avoid Dry Spells

So here is my new bulletin board for my job as an Academic Mentor.

The Title is “Avoid a Dry Spell: How to Keep the Papers Flowing”

It is supposed to look like things being dried on clotheslines between two buildings. Not sure if it fully gets across. Also making those buildings from a certain perspective was hard.

I am a Tragic Whale

So, Kerry over at the Tragic Whale put up a Tragic Whale Story that I suggested. When I suggested it to her it was just a super boring concept and she turned it into the coolest and funniest story ever. She even put my favorite books on the cover! Here is the first two pages.

Kendra’s Library… A Tragic Whale Story

Like any intelligent whale, Kendra was always looking for ways to expand her knowledge and better herself.  And what better way than to petition for a library in her town?!

To read the rest (do it cause my favorite joke is with the third picture) go here.

How to Make a Hallmark Movie

1. Make the plot be about Christmas

2. Get former child star.

advice: avoid meth addicts. try former cast of Full House or Step by Step

3. Add quirky common characters.. example: the mother in law who just wont leave, the neighbor who keeps bringing cookies, the Santa who is stalking the main character.

4. Ask cast to share boring stories on set, so the viewer can feel like they really know the cast.

5. Put in large amounts of product placement for kitty litter or dog food (know your audience).

Learn to Write in the Bath

I saw the painting La Mort de Marat (the Death of Marat) today..

The first thing I thought was, “Oh, he thinks he is so great because he can write while in the bath… looks like he got what he deserved.”

In retrospect he was a real innovator. I am considering bringing the “desk bath” concept back.

Eggs 4 Sale

I just found out I can sell my eggs for $10,000. I have a great idea.

Seems like a ripoff since you can buy a dozen at the supermarket for two dollars.

WiseGuy for Wise Guys (and girls)

So I found this video while looking for some things for a school advertising project. It’s about facebook and job interviews (both the project for school and this video.)

That’s by Wiseguy Pictures, which also made a 30 minute film which I thought was both funny and beautifully filmed. It’s called The Old Man and the Seymour. Take a look at their site, Wiseguy Pictures.

Fun activity time!

1. Okay so go to wikipedia, then look up Operation Uranus (or just click that link there.)

2. Now search the page (control f, for you computer illiterate) for “penetrat”.

Here is what you would find if you actually did this activity on your own:

The Armageddon of Music

Today, I thought of a doomsday scenario.. lets hope it never happens:

What if Taylor Swift was in a loving relationship and got married.

She would only be able to release EPs from then on. We would be stuck with songs like Our Song and Mine, while all of her crazy vindictive stuff would be left in the dust.

Lets hope she continues her on and off again relationships or else You Love Me, Despite My Hair in the Shower Drain will be playing on the radio.

Damn.. that house is old

So I may not like the TV show This Old House, but I do really like old houses. Which is why I loved this poem my mom sent me earlier today:

Houses

by Rachel Field
I like old houses best, don’t you?
They never go cluttering up the view
With roofs too red and paint too new,
With doors too green and blinds too blue!
The old ones look as if they grew,
Their bricks may be dingy, their clapboards askew
From sitting so many seasons through,
But they’ve learned in a hundred years or two
Not to go cluttering up the view.
That’s a picture I took last November of the chipping paint on my house. I think the best part of old houses is the chipping paint. Perhaps because of the disproportionate amount of lead paint chips I ate as a child.
